Description

Apple is going to drop AFP on OS X Maverics and will support SMB2 from Microsoft. Will Freenas have this support?

SMB2 provide better security and is alot faster. (Not CIFS)

According to the first 2 links Mavericks is only going to prefer SMB2 over AFP instead of OS X until 10.8.x. It's no going to drop AFP yet.

Apples' own implementation SMBX will support SMB2, that's the important thing.
FreeNAS has been shipping with Samba 3.6 - bringing support - since 803-RELEASE-p1 [[httpsourceforgenetprojectsfreenasfilesFreeNAS-831RELEASEREADME abour releases.

Technically FreeNAS does support SMB2 today (not SMB2.1 or the latest 3.0 though), the question is rather what version is currently set to default. - I don't have a FreeNAS box yet available but that's at least for relaxing the bug severity. The SMB version can be set in smb.conf at least.

SMB2 was turned on by default on my FreeNAS 9.1-beta install. Works great.

Quoted articles refer to the CIFS server. SMB2 and SMB1 is supported by the client server which should support replacing off of AFP on OS X Mavericks.
